Social media recruitment is dominated by discussion of the Big 3 - LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. However this is an oversimplification as much of the real value can lie in the much more specialised industry specific blogs and forums. It is our job to identify what works, cut through the hype and deliver effective practical solutions.

Developments in social media is of huge interest for our clients and OME's role is to guide them through the complexities of the options available and enable them to differentiate what is essential for companies to do effectively and what is merely "nice to do". The starting points when looking at these areas for our clients are the following
  • Strategy and Objectives
  • Time and Resources
  • Measurement
  • What are the drivers for the shape of social media and candidate behaviour in the future?
Or in other words
- Why are you getting into this area? (ROI, brand proposition, innovation - combination of all 3)
- Are you prepared to commit the time and resources to make it work? (you should only outsource part of this to an outside supplier)
- How are we going to measure? (Traditional measurements of cost per hire etc will probably not see a great return in medium term).

It is only then that we lay out our recommendations on using LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook etc and how we may want to measure activity in this area and where it fits into your recruitment and employer brand strategy.
